ਫ੍ਰੈਂਡਜ਼ ਆਫ ਇੰਡੀਆ ਐਂਡ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਫਾਊਂਡੇਸ਼ਨ ਨੂੰ ਚਲਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨਿੰਦਰ ਗਿੱਲ ਨੇ ਓਟਾਵਾ ਸਥਿਤ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਹਾਈ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨਰ ਸੰਜੇ ਵਰਮਾ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਹਾਈ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨ ਦੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਟਾਫ ਲਈ ਰਿਸੈਪਸ਼ਨ ਦਾ ਆਯੋਜਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ। ਪਰ ਭੀੜ ਦੀ ਹਿੰਸਾ ਅਤੇ ਡਿਪਲੋਮੈਟਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਰੱਦ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਮਜਬੂਰ ਹੋਣਾ ਪਿਆ। ਭੀੜ ਤਲਵਾਰਾਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿਰੋਧੀ ਨਾਅਰੇਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਕਰਦੀ ਗੋਈ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਵਾਲੀ ਥਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਪਹੁੰਚੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਮੈਂਬਰਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਹਮਲਾ ਕੀਤਾ। ਮਨਿੰਦਰ ਗਿੱਲ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਕੈਨੇਡੀਅਨ-ਭਾਰਤੀ ਡਾਇਪੋਰਾ ਦੇ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਸੁਰਤੇਜ ਗਿੱਲ ਨੂੰ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਹੀ ਖਾਲਿਸਤਾਨੀ ਵੱਖਵਾਦੀਆਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਕੁੱਟਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਜਿਸ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਸਦੀ ਪਸਲੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੱਟਾਂ ਲੱਗੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਸਰੀ ਰਾਇਲ ਕੈਨੇਡੀਅਨ ਮਾਉਂਟਿਡ ਪੁਲਿਸ (RCMP) ਦੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਮੌਕੇ 'ਤੇ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਸਨ ਪਰ ਉਹ ਭੀੜ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਕੋਈ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਸਫਲ ਰਹੇ। ਦੱਸਣਯੋਗ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਆਰਸੀਐਮਪੀ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਭੀੜ ਖ਼ਿਲਾਫ਼ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਜਾਏ ਮਨਿੰਦਰ ਗਿੱਲ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਰੱਦ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਮਜਬੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।

ਬ੍ਰਿਟਿਸ਼ ਕੋਲੰਬੀਆ ਦੀ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਅਫਗਾਨਿਸਤਾਨ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵੀ ਮਾੜੀ ਹੈ। ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨੇ ਖਾਲਿਸਤਾਨੀ ਭੀੜ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਹਮਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੁਝ ਨਾ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਭਾਰਤੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੁੱਟਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਪਰ ਕੋਈ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਈ। ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਤਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਖਾਲਿਸਤਾਨੀ ਭੀੜ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ ਗ੍ਰਿਫਤਾਰੀ ਦਾ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਕਰੇਗੀ, ”ਮਨਿੰਦਰ ਗਿੱਲ ਨੇ ਸੀਐਨਐਨ-ਨਿਊਜ਼ 18 ਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਿਆ।

ਗਿੱਲ ਨੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਕਿਹਾ “ਕਈ ਹੋਰ ਲੋਕ ਵੀ ਜ਼ਖਮੀ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ। ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨੇ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਕਰਵਾ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰਨਗੇ ਪਰ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਰੱਦ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਮਜਬੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਉਹ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਹਾਈ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨ ਦੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਮੈਂਬਰ 'ਤੇ ਹਮਲਾ ਕਰਨਗੇ।" ਇਹ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਪੰਜ ਘੰਟੇ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਚੱਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਤ 9 ਵਜੇ ਦੇ ਕਰੀਬ ਸਮਾਪਤ ਹੋਇਆ।

ਗਿੱਲ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਸੰਜੇ ਵਰਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਘਟਨਾ ਵਾਲੀ ਥਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਨਾ ਪਹੁੰਚਣ ਦੀ ਅਪੀਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਹ ਉਸ ਲਈ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਅਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਉਸਨੇ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਅਖੌਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਕਾਰੀ ਸੰਜੇ ਵਰਮਾ ਸਮੇਤ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਡਿਪਲੋਮੈਟਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਹਮਲਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਯੋਜਨਾ ਬਣਾ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।

The attack is accompanied by a video going viral on Twitter in which a Canadian-Indian journalist, Sameer Kaushal, is being chased away and seen being insulted and threatened by Khalistani mob members.

Khalistani's Attack Canadian-Indians in Canada: About 300 Khalistani separatists protesting the arrest of Amritpal Singh in Punjab attacked members of the Indian community in Canada on March 19, in which 3 people were injured. A diaspora event in the Canadian city of Surrey in the British Columbia province was canceled due to the circumstances.

Maninder Gill, who runs the Friends of India and Canada Foundation, organized a reception for Ottawa-based Indian High Commissioner Sanjay Verma and other staff of the Indian High Commission. But they were forced to cancel the event due to mob violence and fear for the safety of diplomats. A mob carrying swords and shouting anti-India slogans rushed to the Goi venue and attacked three members of the Indian community. Maninder Gill said that Surtej Gill, a member of the Canadian-Indian Diapora, was beaten by Khalistani separatists in front of the police, due to which he suffered injuries to his ribs. Surrey Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) officers were present at the scene but failed to take any action against the crowd. It is to be mentioned that instead of taking action against the crowd, the RCMP officials forced Maninder Gill to cancel the event.

The situation in British Columbia is worse than in Afghanistan. The police did nothing in the attack by the Khalistani mob. Indians were beaten in front of them but no action was taken. The police knew that the Khalistani mob would protest the arrest of Amritpal Singh in Punjab," Maninder Gill told CNN-News18.

Gill added, “Many other people have also been injured. The police had earlier assured us that we could hold the event and that they would provide security, but later they forced us to cancel the event. They will attack any member of the Indian High Commission.” The demonstration lasted for over five hours and ended around 9 pm.

Gill said that he and other organizers urged Sanjay Verma not to reach the venue as it was not safe for him. He also said that the so-called protestors were planning to attack Indian diplomats including Sanjay Verma.

Following the arrest of Khalistani separatist leader Amritpal Singh, Khalistani elements in Canada have sent online threats to disrupt events and meetings that Indian diplomats are expected to attend.
